Knight Foundation Award

Monday night, Knight Foundation recognized 21 Knight Arts Champions, who have played key roles in fostering the arts sector, honoring these men and women for their vision, courage and tenacity in building Miami’s cultural community. Among the recipients was Eric Fliss, Managing Director of the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, a performing arts venue located in Cutler Bay and operated by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. Each champion was given $10,000 to contribute to a local artist or arts organization of their choice.

Fliss will distribute the $10,000 between two organizations; The Miami Youth Ballet whose mission is to create opportunities for local young artists, to be mentored, grow and present their work for the enjoyment and cultural enhancement of our community and The Carbonell Awards which fosters the artistic growth of professional theater in South Florida.  “I am very gratified to be a part of this recognition and I want to thank the Knight Foundation for all of the support that they provide to our arts community,” said Fliss.

Other Miami leaders who received the award were theater and film director Joseph Adler; CEO of the New World Symphony Howard Herring; and curator, artist and artistic director, The Underline, Ximena Caminos.
