The Community Arts Program (CAP) ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble—part of the award-winning CAP Miami Jazz Institute—is comprised of a diverse group of serious, career-minded CAP jazz students from throughout Miami-Dade County. The CAP ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble rehearses 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday evenings, August through May, at the historic Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ. The CAP ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble experience is designed to sharpen sight reading, style, technique, improv, rhythm, recording studio skill, college prep and career development through the practical study and performance of jazz repertoire that spans the standards to newly-composed works. The Community Arts Program (CAP) ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble is a three-time finalist and performer for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington. The Ensemble has opened for such groups as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (twice); Count Basie Orchestra; jazz vocalists, Catherine Russell and Tony DeSare; and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Under the Community Arts Program record label, CAP Records® , the CAP ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble released With a Swing! On its South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center performance—with charts from Count Basie and Glenn Miller to Sweet Band era music and more—the CAP ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble brings a high-energy evening that guarantees to entertain and bring concertgoers to their feet!
