Minimum Qualifications

This position is highly advanced and specialized work requiring considerable independent decision-making in administrative and supervisory production duties to operate The Dennis C. Moss Center.

An employee in this class is responsible for leadership in providing event planning, event production and facility management. The incumbent provides schedules and supervises all backstage activity and is responsible for delegating all technical tasks. Specific responsibilities include organizing, planning and executing all aspects of each event to ensure that the event is operating efficiently, managing events by making decisions regarding technical emergencies, theater emergencies, safety, financial interests of the client (internally or externally), and/or financial interests of The Dennis C. Moss Center.

The candidate would be responsible for overriding, accepting, or rejecting production staging techniques described by executive management, presenters, representatives, local organizations or guest artists. Responsibilities also include advancing performances as assigned, i.e., identifying technical needs, creating crew schedule, executing logistical details, enforcement of lease agreement requirementsand facility maintenance and repair work.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience necessary: High School diploma or greater required. More than one year experience working in a public facility, in the capacity of building management, security or parking attendant is required. Special consideration is given to candidates with one year of experience in theater. Security certificates a plus.

Job Description / Nature of Work

The ideal candidate will ensure the safety and well-being of all guests, members, colleagues, patrons and visitors of The Moss Center. The building attendant will strive to provide the highest degree of professional and courteous service. This position endeavors to maintain, and will always attempt to improve, the status of safety and security within and around the facility and grounds. The building attendant will effectively use all the tools at their disposal and care for the assets of The Moss Center. The Moss Center is a world-class, multi-disciplinary performing arts center in the heart of the Town of Cutler Bay.

Environmental Concerns: Some positions require standing for long periods of time in a variety of weather environments. May include overnight shifts. Must be available to work evenings and weekends and have a flexible schedule.

Illustrative Tasks

  • Protect property and lives by patrolling the area
  • Detecting suspicious activity and threats to property or people
  • Daily reporting of all incidents, accidents or medical emergencies
  • Monitor entrances of property through camera surveillance
  • Identify visitors and ask for appropriate documents
  • Guard against theft and maintain security
  • Respond to all alarms and calls of distress

  • Use short-wave radios and cell phones to stay in contact with other attendants and management

Recruitment Notes

This position entails applying knowledge of standard theatrical / entertainment technical practice including but not limited to stage carpentry techniques, stage rigging techniques, stage lighting practice, low voltage wiring, DMX control, HD video projection, costume construction and wardrobe maintenance.

The incumbent will move between multiple performance spaces and work as members of a team for load-in, set up, operation and load-out of all stage productions as well as assist with general work and maintenance calls at CUA operated performing arts facilities. This position will provide operational labor and team supervision of a variety of artistic performances including ongoing general maintenance for stage equipment, scene shop, production equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide all guests with a positive first impression of The Moss Center by offering superior, individualized guest service through excellent customer service
  • Hand out programs as patrons are led into the theater
  • Effectively communicate with guests locating their seats
  • Ability to identify problems and work with Managers to resolve any issues that may arise
  • Provide information regarding Moss Center events and facilities
  • Have a working understanding of the functions of other departments
  • Pay attention to ensure no food or beverages go into theatres when appropriate
  • Seat latecomers (most times in partial darkness)
  • Follow directions of Captains and House Managers
  • Assist patrons with disabilities
  • Monitor crowd for unusual behavior, flash photography and video cameras
  • Lead patron evacuations in case of emergencies.

  • First Aid CPR/AED certification a plus but not is preferred
  • Ability to carry at least 50 pounds of material
  • Must purchase or provide their own uniforms and wear them to every shift. Uniforms consist of a white button-down shirt, black pants or skirt, comfortable solid black shoes with no ornamentation, and a flashlight
  • Employees in this position are expected to be able to perform any and all work tasks and comply with any work schedules or attendance or duty requirements. Successful candidates must have availability to work during after-school hours/evenings on an ongoing basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Five or more years of professional stagecraft / theatrical carpentry experience and expertise, including set construction, counterweight system operation and stage rigging. ETCP certified preferred.

Experience as a head or assistant stage carpenter with the ability to demonstrate strong leadership, managing typical load in / load out and show running crews of 4-24 IATSE and non-IATSE stagehands is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all crews for load-in, set up, operation and load-out of all stage productions.
  • The Head Carpenter/Fly Person supervises all departmental heads and department crews during all work/maintenance calls while serving as the show carpenter and fly person as necessary.
  • Operating and maintaining all theatre rigging and carpentry systems and related areas.
  • Operating, repairing, and maintaining all stage equipment, including but not limited to counterweight system, fly lines, rigging systems and winch motors.
  • Maintaining inventory control of tools and expendables.
  • The Head Carpenter / Fly Person works with the Theater Production Manager Head Electrician, and Head Audio/Video Technician discussing the daily schedule to determine safest and most efficient use of crew and resources to produce events hosted at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center.
  • Crossing over departmental lines to assist in the areas of lighting, projection, video, fly rail, properties and audio is a must for a well-rounded member of the house crew.

The position requires managerial skills to lead, oversee and work as a team with all employees and presenters of The Moss Center.

Compensation: Based on current rates of the IATSE Local 500 contract.

Work Schedule

On call/on need basis. These positions have no standard shift. The department's weekly schedule hours can be between 10 to 35 hours per week. The manager's schedule based upon show-base and needs of the department. This is not a full-time position.

Nature of Work
Parking attendants are responsible for assisting patrons into one of the three available parking lots at The Moss Center. In this position, successful candidates will be responsible for assisting patrons with the parking of vehicles, directing patrons into open spots in both public and managed lots, at The Moss Center.

  • Assist patrons to park vehicles in open spots until the lot is full
  • Managing a visitor list at the controlled lot
  • Use hand signals and lights to direct patrons into open spots
  • Position or remove barricades to prevent parking in certain spots
  • Management of the over-flow parking
  • Work with Miami-Dade County Police to enforce the policy that patrons must use the crosswalk
  • Escort customers to their vehicles if needed
  • Help patrons exit the facility safely by encouraging them to use the cross-walk
  • Assist patrons with event information if necessary
  • Report any grievances or issues that arise
