Acclaimed New York Contemporary Dance Company Gallim Dance Performs Works Choreographed by Artistic Director and Former Batsheva Dancer Andrea Miller at South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center

Miami (March, 2017) – South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center presents Gallim Dance on Saturday, April 22 at 8PM with three dance pieces: Boat, Pupil Suite and Sketch. Tickets are $25-$40 and can be purchased at or by calling 786-573-5300. The Center is located at 10950 SW 211 Street, Cutler Bay.


Gallim Dance, one of New York’s leading contemporary dance companies, creates and performs the work of Artistic Director Andrea Miller. Since 2007, Gallim has presented Miller’s artistic vision through its performances, collaborations, and Brooklyn studio projects. With each new work, Gallim dives deeper into singular explorations of universal struggles such as love, spirituality, and the tensions between the individual and collective experience. Gallim performs for 20,000 audience members annually at premier venues including The Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center, BAM, The Kennedy Center, Works & Process at the Guggenheim, New York City Center, and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. International venues include Théâtre National de Chaillot (France) and the Grand Théâtre  de la Ville de Luxembourg. Gallim has been recognized by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, The Harkness Foundation for Dance, Princess Grace Foundation-USA, The Shubert Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and NY State Council on the Arts for the strength of Miller’s artistic work and the organization. It has received awards from the NEA, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President for its community programming.

Commissioned by The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Boat is dedicated to all those who are still enduring and persevering in their hopes of life, despite suffering oppression and inhabiting despair, and to all who are building new harbor and homes for their hearts to host. Set to the music of Arvo Pärt the work can be performed with live choir and organ.

Inspired by the Myth of sisyphus the work explores the mix of absurdity and joy in the restless efforts of our humanity.



About Andrea Miller


Andrea Miller is the founder, artistic director, and choreographer of New York-based Gallim Dance. Through a plural body of work, Miller has developed an artistic language of insatiable curiosity, absolute physicality, and unprejudiced emotionality in projects that push the boundaries of dance, installation, fashion, and film.  In 2014 Miller was named a Guggenheim Fellow for demonstrating exceptional creative ability. Other awards include Sadler’s Wells Jerwood Fellowships, Princess Grace Foundation Special Projects Awards, and Joyce Theater Artist in Residence, among others. Her work is performed nationally and internationally in premier venues such as BAM, NY City Center, the Joyce Theater, the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, and Madrid en Danza in Spain. Miller’s choreography has been commissioned internationally for companies including Nederlands Dans Theater 2 and Atlanta Ballet. Miller is devoted to dance education and has developed NEA-awarded programs for Gallim Dance’s home studio in Brooklyn, as well as commissions and reconstructions for over 40 academic institutions such as the Juilliard School. In 2016, Miller will debuted two large-scale collaborations: Carmina Burana with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C. at Lincoln Center and The Kennedy Center and a collaboration with the Curtis Institute of Music to premiere at the Kimmel Center.


The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center is managed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, with funding support from the Office of the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
